A Rose by Any Other Name...

Hello to one and all this bright and beautiful morning. This is just the briefest of posts merely to let you know that I have changed my Ravelry screen name to...CompletelyFrogged. C'mon now, you must have seen that coming...

In any case that's where you can find me just to keep things simple.

Happy crafting!

Home Stretch

Hello one and all,
Welcome back if you're a repeat visitor or welcome altogether if you're new.

This weekend I've spent many glorious hours AT HOME! It seems that Mr. Frogged and I are constantly out and about on the weekends, so even though this weekend involved entertaining on two separate occasions it seemed to me to be heaven itself since only one (delicious) social commitment outside my home existed.

I thought I had better fill you in on my week.

On Tuesday I worked from home because my office had a blackout. I'm telling you this because I will now be working summer hours and doing my half days at home every Friday! I'm hoping this will prompt a regular blog post when I finish work each week but we shall see how that goes.

In just under two weeks I'll be hopping onto a plane for England to meet my cousin's new little baby (who's expected next Friday) and introduce my fairly recently minted hubby to my extended family. This means that the blankie I'm working on needs to be finished within a week to leave time for washing and blocking. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can... Here are some progress shots for you. What do you think?

That cameo is our little Tonka who is a crazy one year old Maltese. He's ready for his close up:

One of my guests was the mom who received the previously posted pink blanket (Tiramisu). She's buying me yarn (yay!) to make her another for a friend of hers and she's asked me to make yet another blanket for winter for her gorgeous baby girl. I can't wait to begin them! On a side note I made homemade scones and served them with fresh lemon curd from my local farmers market and my goodness was it ever good! (If I do say so myself)

Also I've just this morning begun a group on Ravelry called Completely Frogged in Vaughan. Please come check it out and join! The more the merrier...I mean, it's certainly no fun to be in a group alone!

And lastly for any locals to Toronto, a little plug for my favourite LYS's. Romni Wools and the Knit Cafe are both having sales. Romni for the entire month of July and the Knit Cafe beginning next Saturday. I'll be visiting next week for sure and will post about all my finds...I think I'll get some sock yarn. :)

Until then, happy crafting.

I'm in LOVE!

Hello there and thank you for reading!  Thank you to any friends and family who visited the site.  Especially those who posted comments which helps it to look like someone actually reads this.

Today I'm going to talk a bit about my current project, a bit about my upcoming project, and a bit about some luscious yarn I bought - I hope you enjoy.

So first - about that white crocheted baby blanket I've been working on.  I should mention that if you like the pattern so far, it is the Ruffled Snapdragon Baby Blanket on Ravelry.  It turns out that although it is pretty tedious to do the same stitch over and over along such a ginormous piece, it is a PERFECT travelling piece.  It is beginning to get a bit on the big side for purse storage, but I'll keep it in my purse anyways.  It is good mindless stuff that I can work on at all kinds of functions which sounds a little anti-social, but the long and the short of it is this: 1) I eat less at parties when I have a project in my hands for the obvious reason that I can't eat and crochet at once (what a pity), 2) I can talk and crochet at once, and 3) this project needs to be done in two weeks time in order to give me enough time to wash it and block it before taking it merrily with me to meet its new tiny little owner all the way over in England.  It's getting closer and closer to completion every day currently measuring a whopping 21" x 36", but I must say I'm beginning to panic just a little.

Now onto my upcoming project...
First let me make mention that the recipient of the Strawberry Tiramisu baby blanket was so tickled by it that she requested I make another!  We will be picking the pattern for it this weekend and I will be sure to let you know what it is as soon as I do.  Now this is all very exciting, but it also means one more crocheted baby blanket which, if I don't become a crafting bigamist, will actually cause complete insanity.  So, here is the perfect solution!  I am going to begin my Superstar Knit challenge.  If you haven't flipped through Debbie Stroller's Stitch n Bitch Superstar Knitting  I can't recommend it highly enough.  I'm reading through the intro and instructions right now just for fun and it is amazing.  As usual, she has paired fashion relevent patterns with unique knitting techniques for newly minted advanced knitters which I cannot wait to try out.  So without further ado, I introduce my first frolic into her pattern book (and my first lace pattern to boot):   The Frilly Filly Scarf!  I do have some alterations in mind for this pattern already though, and mainly that is to turn it into a beautiful beaded cowl.  Think, Knitty's Ice Queen meets this pretty, beginner lace pattern.

And now for the piece de resistance, and my love of the moment - the yarn!  Oh the, yarn!  I bought it with a gift certificate from my friend and it is DELICIOUS.  It is Debbie Bliss Angel and is the most beautiful coral colour.  I can't stop talking about it - even my personal trainer has heard about this yarn.  It's soft, and delicate, and quite possibly the prettiest thing I have ever knit with!  I'll let you know how it performs once the cowl is started, but in the meantime just know that it will be in my carry-on on the way to England eagerly awaiting it's cast-on.

I hope it's ok, but I haven't included any pictures in this post, mainly because I tried to link back to things wherever possible.  I'm sure I've gone on too long, so here's where I'll bid you farewell...until next time Happy Knitting.

Adventures in the Frog Pond...

Hello again,

So today I discovered for the umpteen billionth time that when you mindlessly crochet for too long at any given time you are liable to completely screw up the pattern no matter how simple the stitch. Right now I'm crocheting a blanket entirely in the snap dragon stitch and lately it seems that I need to frog back about 3 rows every day because I notice an error a little ways back. This is what it ends up looking like....

The rest of it looks good though!! See...

Spinning's Not Just for Yarn

Hello to you all! It's so optimistic of me to believe that there is anyone out there reading this, but I must tell myself you exist or else I feel like I'm talking to myself. I should mention that on Ravelry my name is KnittedChick so that if you do read this you can message me to let me know. :)

You may recall that the last time we spoke I was training for a charity bike ride. It's that same ride that has prevented me from checking in since then. I did the ride and it went ok. My knees were playing me up and I've since learned that I was biking with patellar tendinitis which is like tennis elbow in your knee. I spent most of the ride spinning which in cycling is being in a low gear peddling quite fast but not really going anyplace. Long story short, not too fun. In the end I did making it to the finish line and signed up for next year, so that can't be bad.

The reason it affected my blogging is because I had to play catch-up on all my housework once the ride was over with. Now I think the house is finally back in check, thanks in part to Mr. Frogged's productive days off, and I can happily continue my fiber filled fancies.

What I have discovered recently is Podcasts. Oh, how I love them! They keep me company when I drive to and from work. I feel like I have a group of knit obsessed girlfriends in my purse who chat with me for 4 hours a day! How great is that? Plus I'm learning so much. Like the fact that I'm itching to try spinning on a wheel instead of a bike. The idea of feeling all that fluffy fiber run through your fingers sounds entirely devine.

My current favourite podcasts are The CBC Vinyl Cafe, The Knitmore Girls, Craftlife and The Knitwits but there are so many to choose from it's really hard to pick. Check them out and tell me what you think, or let me know about podcasts you like.

Until next time happy crafting!

The Blessed Rain!

Hello all,

As promised, I am checking in, but with a rather un-crafty post.  I am working steadily through a new blanket which is going really well although I continuously seem to botch up the pattern slightly but in such a way that I am compelled to frog back about 3 rows each time and then re-do them.  Wretched.

Now, today where I am it is pouring with rain.  Not just showers as they promised but pouring!  Which ordinarily might inspire me to think, "oooooh, what a lovely day to snuggle up with my little puppy and Mr. Frogged and stitch up a storm." But on this particular day the only things that I thought were not lady-like enough for me to post just here.  You see, next weekend I'm cycling (with the Mr.) 213km for charity.  Before you think I'm any kind of athlete - don't.  I'm not,  nor ever will I be an athlete, and if you ever were looking for me with "athlete" as the model of choice, you'd never find me.  Cute though I may be, I'm scarce 5'-0" tall and a bit soft all around.  That said there is still this insanity about cycling which I've gotten myself into and now I have to complete.  Turns out Mother Nature is not on my side as she has decided to spend all spring up to and including today piddling down with rain and the gym is a poor substitute for the road.

As I write this, the 3 1/2 hours of thunder and lightning appear to have dwindled to a drizzle (light showers my foot, weatherman!) and I will after all be able to bike like a mad woman to complete 80km today before dark.  So without further ado, HERE I GOOOOOoooooo!

WIP It!

It occured to me recently while perusing my friend's Ravelry account, that to look at my Ravelry account would inspire one to beleive that I am completely inactive in the ways of the fiber arts .  My friend's account not only shows photos of her WIP's and completed projects but also includes: descriptions of each project , information on their difficulty, modifications made, the name of the person they were made for and if possible why - and needless to say each project is crafted with love and displayed with perfect photography and impeccable craft.  My account, on the other hand includes: a queue of projects which have not yet been cast on, a hoard of WIP's that have neither been touched nor updated since their conception, and a number of "gifts" that may only ever meet their owners on the needles and hooks from which they sprung.

I should defend myself by saying that I am not completely stagnant in this department.  I almost invariably have at least 3 projects on the go, but usually just one that remains in my purse and travels with me everywhere for emergency queue-crafting.

To look at this blog right now you may think I'm not thinking of my blog either, but that's simply not true.  You can ask Mr. Frogged who raises his eyebrows at me everytime he opens my laptop to find yet another "Sticky Note" up on my desktop with a random and wonderful blog idea.  The trouble is, I just don't seem to free the ideas from my head in any sort of timely manner.  Well, no more!

I have decided how to challenge myself with this blog.  I need to set some ground rules.
1:  Finish all my WIP's.
2:  Knit through the stash that is slowly creeping into every recess of my home (most recently a skein was found under my laundry tub much to Mr. Frogged's confusion)
3:  Knit through all the projects in Superstar Knits from our Stitch n Bitch friends who seem to be the only ones out there to offer patterns with how-to's beyond the staple knit and pearl.  This will hone my skills and also remove me from the trap of only using crafts for gifts.  I don't even own my own knitwear!
4:  Lastly, post to this blog at least every other week with all finished projects, WIP's, or just some update.

In the spirit of this, I recently finished a blanket and bootees which I can share with you.  The blanket is pictured below but in my gift giving haste the bootees were not photographed before I gave them to their tiny owner. Hope you like them.
